The double figure bronze depicting a man comforting his beautiful lover.

Jean-Alexandre-Joseph Falguière (French, 1831-1900), was born in Toulouse. A pupil of the École des Beaux-Arts, he won the Prix de Rome in 1859; he was awarded the medal of honor at the Paris Salon in 1868 and was appointed Officer of the Legion of Honor in 1878. In 1882, he was appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Falguière’s students included Antonin Mercié, Laurent Marqueste, Gaston Schnegg, Camille Crenier, Achille Jacopin, Maurice Bouval, and Jean-Marie Mengue, the most famous of whom was Antoine Bourdelle.
