This table is almost identical to the 18th century model made by the sculptor Jules Degoullons for the Château de Bercy in 1713. With his associates, André and Mathieu Legoupil, Marin Bellan and Pierre Taupin, Degoullons was responsible for much of the carved paneling and carved furniture supplied to Charles-Henri II de Malon de Bercy, between 1712 and 1714. The table was purchased at the auction of the contents of Câteau de Bercy between July 15 and 18, 1860 by Napoleon III and placed in the national collection. François Linke reproduced this model between 1905 and 1910. One Linke model from the collection of Elias Meyer at 16 Grosvenor square in London, illustrated in C. Payne, Linke, p. 244-5, and sold Christie’s New York, May 24, 1993, lot 338.
