Early 20th Century Bronze Sculpture of a Nude Girl Seated
Signed A. Pina
Alfredo Pina was born in Milan in 1887. He studied at the College of Milan and then took classes at the Academy of Fine Arts (Brera Academy). Thanks to hard work, he won the National Grand Prix of Italy (equivalent of the Prix de Rome) when he was only 17 years old. He moved to Paris at 24 without knowing a word of French and settled in Montparnasse where he rented a workshop adjoining that of Antoine Bourdelle. Fascinated by Rodin (1840-1917), he is strongly influenced by the number of sculptors of his generation. He died in 1966.
